“When Gideon came to the Jordan, he and the three hundred men who were with him crossed over, exhausted but still in pursuit.”
Judges 8:4 NKJV
Who?
Katie, Kelley, Matt, and their family members plus any friends they want to invite. This will not be a closed group, but the target audience is our family. Feel free to invite anyone who you think might like to follow along with us.
What?
7 year read the Bible through plan. I’ve read the Bible through in a year, but have found that I retain very little and am actually glad when the year is up. I think one year is too little time for so much information.
When?
Beginning May 1st, 2024
How?
I will produce a weekly podcast about the selected passages. I would like you to listen first to the podcast, then read the selected text in the Bible translation of your choice (Mom will provide your starter kit if you want one). Then listen to the passage in an audio format (Bible Gateway is free) from 2 or 3 different translations sometime during the week. Then finally, reread the same passage one more time in your primary translation. I believe that if you hear someone talk about the passage, read it yourself, listen to 2 or 3 other people read it to you, possibly memorize a key verse, and jot down a few notes about what you find interesting that it will come alive for you.
Here’s the 7 year plan:
Year 1:The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John)
Year 2: The Pentateuch (Gen, Ex, Lev, Numbers, Deuteronomy)
Year 3: Acts, the Epistles, Revelation, and Daniel
Year 4: Historical Books (Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1&2 Sam,1&2 Kings, 1&2 Chron, Ez, Ne, Es, Job)
Year 5: Major Prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel)
Year 6: Minor Prophets (H, J,A,O,J,M,N,H,Z,H,Z,M)
Year 7: Psalms, Proverbs, Eccliastes, Song of Solomon
Mom will mail you a starter kit with either a NASB or Message Bible with markers, journals, book marks all in a neat canvas bag If this is something that would help you. I want you to wear out this Bible. You may have a favorite that may not stand up to the daily wear of a seven year plan, but you might prefer to use the one you currently like. Totally your choice.
Why?
Reading and understanding the Bible is the single greatest thing I can encourage you to do. For so many people reading it is hard and discouraging. I want you to look forward to each week's passage rather than think of it as something to check off. If you get started and feel like it’s too burdensome, please don’t feel like you have to stay with it. I want it to be something you look forward to, not something you dread.
